Last week Richard Juhlin visited Champagne Krug on Boulevard Lundy in Reims. Read the tasting note & review on the web + app ‘Champagne Club by Richard Juhlin’.

Estimated reading time: 6 minutes

Richard on Krug ‘Clos du Mesnil’

Krug’s 1.87 hectares small, walled Chardonnay vineyard in the heart of Le Mesnil-sûr-Oger is no Angkor Wat, Burj Khalifa or Machu Picchu in terms of sheer beauty or magnificence.

‘So why did I pick this place as one of my 100 favourites on Earth, you might ask yourself. My justification is the fact that I believe Krug ‘Clos du Mesnil‘, together with the deep red King of Burgundy, Romanée Conti, to be the best wine in the world!’

Richard Juhlin

Krug themselves are prouder of their ‘Grande Cuvée‘ blends, and the majestic vintage wine dominated by Pinot, but in my mind, there is nothing more beautiful than the quintessence of the grandest of all the champagnes Grand cru in the hands of the foremost estate.
