Yannick Durbaca

My name is Yannick Durbaca from Belgium but I live in Bordeaux to follow my passion for wine.

For over a decade now I’m working in the wine industry and pretty recent we started our project The Wine Archive. What I love about tasting wine is sharing my emotions and experience with wine lovers worldwide, with the positive response of many followers I became an independent wine journalist but we will focus on quality video content to educate the viewers more about their favorite wineries. To check out some videos, you can check out our YouTube channel: The Wine Archive. We have many good connections in Bordeaux but Bourgogne and Champagne are the next step so stay tuned!

Which Champagne would You treat your parents or in-laws?

‘Depending on the situation, but on a casual day I would say Billecart Salmon Blanc de Blancs. A real crowd pleaser and one of the best blanc de blancs in my opinion. But for some kind of celebration I would pick Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru 2002 to have something more sophisticated.’

Which Champagne would You treat your lover?

Dom Perignon rosé 2003 sounds like the ideal champagne for a romantic setting at home and is just amazing to enjoy right now.

Which Champagne would You treat your boss?

When you share a bottle of champagne with your boss I would think we have to celebrate something big. So I would choose an iconic Champagne, like Louis Roederer Cristal and vintage 2004 is just magnificent right now!

Which Champagne would You treat yourself?

Pretty easy question for me, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2008 is such a good Champagne which is great to drink right now but still has so much potential and the value compared with other brands is amazing depending on which time you bought them of course.

Which Champagne would You treat a dream guest, and why?

‘This is such a hard question but I would say go big or go home and would choose Salon Le Mesnil Magnum 1996. One of the best champagnes I’ve ever tasted (blind). This is the ultimate champagne to share with a dream guest. These iconic Champagnes are made to share with people and create memories for life. My dream guest to share this particular champagne with would be Stephen Hawking, he was truly a fascinating person with such good humor as well. Could you imagine him drinking this champagne with a straw? Amazing!’

[ what piece of music would you listen to drinking wine with Your dream guest ?]

‘I would just let Spotify on with the best hits of the 70’s or 80’s. All good for me.’
