His unexpected departure leaves a deep void in the world of Champagne, where he was widely admired as a true visionary and a “renaissance man.”

Frédéric, who joined Ruinart in 2007, was a towering figure whose intellectual curiosity and profound understanding of wine transformed the house’s identity and left an indelible mark on the industry. An agronomist and enologist by training, his illustrious career saw him contribute significantly to various facets of the LVMH group, including a pivotal role at Veuve Clicquot, before taking the helm at Ruinart.

At Ruinart, Frédéric was the architect of its refined, Chardonnay-centric style, elevating the house’s cuvées to new heights of elegance and precision. He possessed a rare gift for blending, consistently crafting champagnes that showcased the purity and finesse of the Chardonnay grape, the very soul of Ruinart. Beyond the cellar, he was a passionate advocate for sustainable viticulture, tirelessly promoting practices that ensured the longevity and health of Champagne’s vineyards.v
