Winter 2025, without being extreme but marked by a few beneficial frosts and well-distributed rainfall, allowed the soil to recharge and calmly prepared the vines. Budbreak, around April 9 for all three grape varieties, confirmed a moderate advance compared to 2024, and the mild spring, with little disease pressure, encouraged steady vine growth.

Flowering, which occurred between June 2 and 9, took place in better conditions than the previous year, though cold nights likely impacted the earliest vines. The potential crop was modest, particularly for Meunier, indicating a limited yield. From mid-June, the vines faced an early heatwave that slowed berry development. Fortunately, the chalky soils supported the vines, maintaining dense and vigorous foliage throughout the heart of summer, despite temperatures reaching around 40°C in early July.

This dynamic led to an exceptionally early harvest: on August 23, the first Chardonnays from Bisseuil were picked, placing 2025 among the vintages with the shortest time between flowering and harvest in Champagne’s history. The harvest confirmed lighter bunches, about 15% below initial estimates, but of impeccable quality: perfect sanitary condition, high ripeness (average pressing degree of 11.1), and highly appealing must aromatics. For our partner growers, the harvest lasted longer, beginning on August 22, with the last musts received on Thursday, September 11.

Carried out in under fifteen days under ideal weather conditions, the 2025 Deutz harvest reflects a sunny and rare year, one that will be remembered for its unique earliness and exceptional quality !
