Birthdays are becoming less and less fun for natural reasons. A tough reminder that life goes crazy too fast is manifested. On the other hand, it is an excellent opportunity to gather some good friends and spend time with loved ones. With regard to my dear 85-year-old father, I had made sure to set-up infrared heat and gas burners to the max and it was only my son Henrik who protested a bit initially when I told him that despite persistent rain and 12 degrees, the whole party would be held outdoors.

My wonderful Italian home cook was responsible for all the top class food without being able to attend this time myself and my private cellar was responsible for the evening’s drinks. For seven hours we hardened out, which was perhaps not so strange when the champagnes were as fantastic as you see below.
