Origine

Originating from the Mediterranean region, artichokes have a long history dating back to ancient Greece and Rome. They were highly regarded for their medicinal properties and were cultivated for both culinary and therapeutic purposes. In fact, artichokes were considered a delicacy among ancient civilizations, reserved only for the wealthy and elite.

The artichoke plant is a member of the thistle family and is cultivated for its flower buds, which are harvested before they fully bloom. The edible part of the artichoke is the fleshy base of each bud, called the heart, along with the tender inner leaves. Artichokes are known for their distinct flavor, often described as earthy, nutty, and slightly bitter.
