BIO

Mauro Antonio Donatiello

Sommelier and Wine Buyer at La Buca, 1 Michelin star restaurant in Cesenatico. But more than as sommelier (moreover atypical, as I spent 15 years in the kitchens before dedicating myself to the service) I am known as serial champagne drinker!!

Which Champagne would You treat your parents or in-laws?

‘The perfect bottle to share with parents (no in-laws in sight, at the moment) is definitely a great classic, Bollinger ‘Grande Année’, vintage 1999. Recently tasted, I found it remarkable for class and elegance!!

Which Champagne would You treat your lover?

‘Cause I am single guy, I choose something for myself: the 1995 Doux by Erick Schreiber. Maybe this extraordinary champagne could bring me luck in love affairs!!’

Which Champagne would You treat your boss?

My boss, Andrea, loves full and round flavours. To him I would definitely suggest ‘Lés Loges’ by Nicolas Maillart as I am pretty sure he has never tasted it and he would be immediately impressed!

Which Champagne would You treat yourself?

As far as I’m concerned, the choice is far from simple. I would hate to leave out some Champagnes at the expense of others. But if I went through the labels, it would surely remain Jacquesson ‘736 Dégorgement Tardif’, one of those champagne hard to forget!!

Which Champagne would You treat a dream guest, and why?

I’d love to meet my football idol, Francesco Totti, and share with him my favorite champagne, ‘l’Oeil de Perdrix’ by Jean Vesselle, maybe the 1999 vintage.

[what piece of music would you listen to drinking wine in question 5 ?]

I have an Urban soul, the right music to drink champagne would definitely be “Champagne 4 The Pain”, song by the Italian rapper Guè, featuring Noyz Narcos and Gemitaiz!!
