Perlage à Trois

My name is Jonathan and I’m a champagne lover from Sweden. My love for champagne started the day I turned 20 and was allowed to buy alcohol for the first time. I didn’t want my first purchase to be beer, so I just picked a bottle of Pol Roger vintage 2002 from the shelves. From that point onwards I was hooked and wanted to learn more. Now, many years later, the interest has gone out of control and I am always on the lookout for new bottles and vintages and I document my journey on instagram

Which Champagne would You treat your parents or in-laws?

‘I’d want something different and enjoyable to drink. To allow the conversation to flow and to develop a bond in the case of the in-laws. What better than a bottle from Chartogne-Taillet? I would open a ‘Cuvée Sainte-Anne’, a really unique grower of which you enjoy every sip. It would also be great if the in-laws are new to champagne as they would love this bottle.‘

Which Champagne would You treat your lover?

‘It may be a bit obvious, but Krug ‘Rosé’. The rosé has everything you want except maybe the price tag. When the day comes and I am proposing, I will have a chilled Krug Rosé next to me, not only for the beautiful and romantic bottle but because it will make the evening even better with its aroma.’

Which Champagne would You treat your boss?

‘That’s a really hard question because my boss is a crazy wine lover, so I would need to bring out the big guns. It would have to be a Jacques Selosse ‘Rosé’. Late at night or even early in the morning, at all times it will knock your boss off their feet. Remember that a happy boss is a good boss.

Which Champagne would You treat yourself?

‘I’m a big Bollinger lover and especially Bollinger ‘Vieilles Vignes Françaises’. It’s a bucket list champagne and I feel extremely fortunate to have tried different vintages. The best vintage right now, at least for me, is vieilles vignes 2002. It’s a crazy good vintage and wine. I hope I get to try it again at some point.’

Which Champagne would You treat a dream guest, and why?

Wow, what a difficult question! My dream guests are actually my loved ones, but if I had to name a celebrity I would choose Eminem. He is the most talented artist today but he is sober now, so hopefully in a few years there may be some better non-alcoholic champagnes that we could share. My Second choice is the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, and I would treat him to a 1966 Louis Roederer ‘Rosé’ as it must be one of the best rosé I have ever had. Even though it was so old, it had a freshness that really stuck with me.

[ what piece of music would you listen to drinking wine with Your dream guest ?]

‘When drinking Champagne I love listening to blues, like B.B King. Something a bit more off the beaten track is Dr Hook, also great while drinking champagne.
